The Danish group Blue Foundation has made their way onto soundtracks of widely known movies and TV-shows because of their dreamy and unique sound. The combination of the dark trip-hop universe and a contrary light and uplifting female voice spiced with a Japanese DJ and various other pleasant elements sweeps through your ears and may cause chills.

Blue Foundation captures the pure magic of trip-hop: melodic soundscapes, dreamy melodies, deep bass, heavy hip-hop drums and a massive nerve that pounds right into your heart. From the wind phasing behind the deep pumping 1/8-note bass to the whispering melodies of Kirstine Stubbe Teglbjærg’s beautiful voice floating above the mellow violins, everything is filled with energy and vibe; loungy, sweeping and very pleasing. The sounds tend to haunt you, but not in a bad way: They make you daze into a perfect calm sense, almost hypnotized by the music.

“I was given wine
We’re feeling okay
And quite all right
You wash my tears away
And make me wanna stay
And bonfires lit up the shores”

“Bonfires” seizes that longing emotion where your feelings just lets go: a distant, yet very, very close and immense state of mind. A distorted pictured of burning bonfires on a beach prints itself into your memory; a strong relic of a truly beautiful and deep experience. The lyrics of “Sweeps of Days” are really worth diving into, because many of them tell sincere stories in a simple but beautiful way.

The song “Save This Town” is a tribute to the Danish free town Christiania, and it remarks with a solid, happy attitude. The soft trumpet and the almost childish voice spins you through the town and waves back to you in a strange fulfilling way. A great quote from the lyrics describes Christiania with few, but clever words:

“Growing from diversity
Out of true originality”

Even though this tells about the town, it could also describe the music of the band. Blue Foundation has stated that it’s a miracle that they’re able to create music together, because the group consists of so very different people. That statement is proved by this brilliant album, which truly is original, diverse and beautiful.

Talking about albums that are good to listen to at night, there's Blue Sky Black Death's Late Night Cinema. Oskar recommended it a while ago and BSBD even put it on their myspace:

Great and relaxing album, I listened to it at 3 AM last night right after I heard Bonfires, which is an incredible song and by far my favourite of the album. I also read about Freetown Christiania which is very interesting. Thanks!
